Spencer picked up DJ, but had to stop at the bathroom on their way downstairs, because DJ had to potty. He waited patiently outside the half-closed door, listening carefully for anything that DJ should NOT be doing. However, DJ seemed to really need to just use the toilet, and then she washed her hands, too. He smiled at her, and picked her up again.
Good girl, Deej. You remembered to wash your hands. She smiled at him, and nodded, and then started to babble about the mall. He put his finger to his lips as they came into the kitchen, and he put her in her high chair. He let Mia put the tray down, and her bowl of cut up pasta, with the little plastic fork she used. Aimee gave her some juice, and then the three settled in at the table. Spencer was at the head of the table, with Mia to his left, and Aimee to his right. At the other end, his father sat, eating quietly.
Mia was the first to speak. Well, this looks lovely, Aimee....And it tastes as good as it looks. He nodded. It DID.
It does, Aimee. You did great, thank you for cooking. He smiled at her. He liked that she could cook-now that Mia was around, though, Aimee got a break. Then, Aimee spoke.
THanks...It is... So. Spencer. You should tell Daddy about work. He made a face.
Work is fine. Aimee, we should decide where you'd like to go for your birthday dinner. He tried to change the subject.

Mia smiled and ate her pork chops as Aimee tried to make nice and polite small talk at the table. To be more specific, she seemed to be trying to get Spencer to communicate with his father. That could turn out to be interesting.
"Aimee, I don't think talking about work at the dinner table is very polite. Nor it is very appropriate. Yes, where DO you want to go for your birthday dinner, Aimee?"

Aimee made a face. Spencer was SO not playing along. She would have to step in soon, do a little family therapy session, she could tell. Though maybe it'd be better coming from Mia-Spencer listened to her. She would talk to Mia later on.
Work is fine. Aimee, we should decide where you'd like to go for your birthday dinner. She did not want to discuss her birthday dinner. She wanted to discuss her family. She also wanted to discuss the wedding, but she wasn't sure if her father knew really that Spencer and Mia were going to actually get married, so she didn't say anything. Mia spoke up then.
Aimee, I don't think talking about work at the dinner table is very polite. Nor it is very appropriate. Yes, where DO you want to go for your birthday dinner, Aimee? Aimee shrugged. Mia had been here, what?, a few months, and she was dictating dinner-table appropriateness?! With a huge sigh, Aimee decided to let it go for now-she knew her brother was being a butthead, anyway.
Can we just go to Max's? Max's was the nearby resturant that did all sorts of "American" food-burgers, salads, sandwiches-and it wasn't super-formal. Aimee had been feeling a bit depressed lately, though she tried not to let it show, and she didn't feel like dressing up.
Now, back to more important things. Like ME. Daddy, I got on honor roll again...

William didn't miss Aimee's shortness. He made a face at her-she was not raised by wolves, no matter what anyone thought of her mother, and he knew she could behave better. He wondered what was really bothering her, but knew better than to press it, because Aimee had a temper that few had ever seen in a girl.
Yes, Aimee. Mia is right. It's inappropriate, and besides, no one wants to hear about patent law, so don't ask me to share. Max's?! What is that? And that is good news, Aimee. I am very proud of you. He smiled at his daughter. He knew that she longed for a super close relationship for all of them, but William simply didn't know HOW.
He took another bite, as it fell silent, and then he glanced at DJ.
So Aimee tells me that DJ is very advanced. DJ, how is your spaghetti? Finally, he turned back to Spencer and Mia.
So. When are you two planning to get married?! Aimee said that Spencer had asked you...

CAn we just go to Max's?
The question made Mia want to raise her eyebrow a bit. Aimee wanted to go a restaurant that required just casual clothing for her birthday? The teenager seemed to love getting dressed up. But, maybe she just really wanted to get a burger or something. So, Mia decided to not ask about it, for now.
Now, back to more important things. Like ME. Daddy, I got on honor roll again... The blonde smiled as Aimee told her father about how she was doing so well in school. It was something to be proud of. Not that Mia was surprised, she knew Aimee was a smart girl. It was nice to hear that William was proud of Aimee too. Maybe there was some hope for the relationship between them to get better.
So. When are you two planning to get married?! Aimee said that Spencer had asked you...
Mia looked over at Spencer before responding. She wasn't entirely sure how much information her fiance would be comfortable with her divulging. So, she decided to just keep it simple, and try not to gush.
"Well, we don't have a set date yet. But, we've talked about having the wedding in early October. It will probably still be nice enough to have the wedding outside. We aren't sure if we are having it here or down in Georgia."

Spencer looked up as Aimee spoke. DJ had finished her usual dinner time routine of separating her noodles into little piles with her hands. DJ refused to use a fork, though she knew HOW. He didn't know why, but the peditrician said sometimes kids did that, and it was a phase.
He finished cleaning DJ's hands as Aimee replied.
CAn we just go to Max's? Spencer was surprised. So was Mia, by the looks of it. Aimee usually liked to dress up and go out to a nice place. Maybe she was kidding. But her tone of voice didn't sound like it.
Are you sure, Ames?! She looked at him harshly, and nodded. Ok. Max's it was.
Then, Aimee and his father went back and forth for a minute.
So Aimee tells me that DJ is very advanced. DJ, how is your spaghetti? Spencer nodded.
She is...very smart. Almost TOO smart. He smiled as DJ looked up and then nodded.
Noodles![/b] She picked one up with her fingers and stuck it in her mouth, and then grinned at William. Then William turned back to Mia. Spencer handed DJ a fork, which she just grunted at. The peditrician had said that it was likely a phase, so Spencer wasn't TOO worried.
Well, we don't have a set date yet. But, we've talked about having the wedding in early October. It will probably still be nice enough to have the wedding outside. We aren't sure if we are having it here or down in Georgia. He nodded.
Yeah, we were discussing doing something rustic, maybe. He shrugged. They hadn't really made a lot of plans yet, and he wasn't really excited to discuss them with William.
Aimee gave Spencer a sharp look as he tried to question her choice. She wasn't the nerd in this family who wanted to eat broccoli on their birthday. NO. Sometimes a girl just felt like a burger, damn it. And besides, she didn't want to hear the fighting that she was pretty much would start soon. Like it usually did.
Yes. Max's. I like the twice baked potatoes. You know, the ones with the cheese and the hamburger? I feel like eating a lot of carbs. She nodded.
Daddy went around the table then, asking about each one. Finally, Mia told him about the wedding plans, and Aimee perked up.
Well, we don't have a set date yet. But, we've talked about having the wedding in early October. It will probably still be nice enough to have the wedding outside. We aren't sure if we are having it here or down in Georgia. Aimee piped in.
I think they should find an old orchard or something...
