The Hero of His Dreams

Signe was pacing the room. She stopped when she heard Spencer start talking to the person. Her eyes went wide. She walked to the table and looked at Spencer. "Spencer...Can I talk to you for a second?" No reply he was staring down Roger. She started to panic. Dr. Reid please stop." Before she could say anything else she was interrupted by Roger.

[SSA Dr. Spencer Reid]

I said it was too late, Signe. You've gone and ruined it all now by getting knocked up by this guy here. That's her secret, Dr. Reid. She went to the clinic because she was sick, that's true, but didn't it occur to you to ask what she was sick WITH? For a supposedly genius, you are a little slow on the uptake. Signe, you were the hero of my dreams-the girl I was supposed to have. And your little friends had to spoil it. I was going to offer you a chance to fix it; to be with me, but I guess this changes the game, hmmm? Which means my plans must change. And I'll have to kill you next."

[SSA Dr. Spencer Reid]

Spencer sat with his eyes wide when Roger interrupted Signe's attempts to speak with him, listening intently, glad his plan was working. But then Roger said that she was pregnant, and his mouth dropped open and he stared at Signe. When the man finished his idle threats against Signe, Spencer stood up.

"Agent Larsen, I need to see you in the hallway." He turned without another word, and entered the hallway. He was upset, but hoping for a logical answer. When Signe appeared, he raised an eybrow.

"Is what he said the truth?"

Signe could feel tears forming in her eyes. Had she just ruined the best thing that ever could have happened to her? Spencer stood up and without looking at her he said he wanted to speak to her. They stepped out into the hallway. She could feel tears falling down her face. He asked her if what he said was true. She had no choice, the truth was out. She nodded yes, at this point holding back tears was pointless. She was crying.

"Yes, Spencer I swear I was going to tell you as soon as we took care of all of this." She paused. Nothing she was saying made this okay. "Spencer I couldn't tell you. You would have been distracted, I thought you would have pulled me out of the field and not let me finish this." She paused looking at him. He hadn't said anything. "Spencer please say something."

[SSA Dr. Spencer Reid]

Spencer sighed, forcing himself to calm down. Of course, he was annoyed that she'd been untruthful, but he was also very afraid, and shocked. He drew in a breath before replying.

"I just can't believe you didn't tell me. I wouldn't have asked you to get out of the field; you're not far enough along yet. Besides, I know what this collar means to you...catching this sick bastard. I am also concerned that you're not taking enough care of yourself when we're not working. What we will do is this: we will book this SOB, and then you and I will go home. We will discuss this, and decide what to do. Finally, we will tell Hotch, just in case he didn't already figure it out." He smiled lightly, letting her know he had calmed down. He turned to enter the room again, and then whirled back around. "Two more things: swear to me that you'll never keep anything like this a secret again, because it's embarassing and annoying to hear about it from someone else. Finally, you'd better tell JJ that I am too upset to talk to her right now."

Signe listened to him talk and nodded. This was better than she thought. He was pissed, she knew that much. But he was calm and collected and not wanting to break up with her which was great considering she was pregnant with his kid. He told her they would put Roger away, go home, talk about what they were going to do and take the necessary precautions. He also mentioned telling JJ that he was to angry to talk to her. She grinned and nodded. She could live with that.

They walked back into the room and Signe sat down, calmly. She looked at the file and then back to Roger. "So you admit that you killed them. Would you mind telling us how?"

Yeah. I strangled them, and then I buried them. It was that easy. So, the kid, will you call it after me?

[SSA Dr. Spencer Reid]

Spencer grimaced, and then stood. He began to pace the room, and he spoke.

"Look, if you so much as *look* at Agent Larsen one more time, she will leave, and it will be just you and me. And I have a gun, and I am an excellent shot." He turned to Signe.

"If you have no more questions, I am done with him. I'll let Hotch take a round, and then Hotch can do with him what he wants."

Signe wasn't done. She had to ask him why he would do this to someone. She needed to understand him. She knew it wasn't customary but she needed to know. She stopped Spencer when he said he would go get Hotch so he could wrap things up so they could all go home. "Wait Spenc...I just have one more question then you can go get Hotch."

She leaned in, trying to think of what he would say to her question. She just wanted to know why. She took a deep breath. "You killed five Psychology students from Chicago." She paused trying to keep her rage pent up. "I just want to know why you did it? Why did you ruin all those families by killing them? What did you have to gain?"

[SSA Dr. Spencer Reid]

Roger sat back in his chair, quiet for once. He hadn't expected her to ask this; in all truthfulness, he'd expected the male agent to force her to leave once he'd revealed her secret. He replied.

I don't know. I guess I liked the power. You know it started with Jackie, when we were kids? After she rejected me, I had to practice. Then I got good enough that I didn't even need to ask. I ruined those families because I like to have sex with girls and then kill them. I feel like a God. You were different, though. You want to know why? Because you fought back. The others, they realized their lot in life. But you didn't. Maybe because you're smart. Or maybe because you saw something else. I don't know. But when you hit me, I realized you were the ONE.

He turned to Spencer. "Get that other agent in here; I waive my right to an attorney and a trial. And keep an eye on Signe for me. I suppose if I can't love her, then you might as well." He sat back in his seat with a satisified smile on his face, and raised an eybrow.

That was it. It was all over. Signe had finally caught the man who haunted her past for so many years. Finally an end to it all. When he explained himself something inside of her felt sad for him. The man was messed up. He had no idea how much he had hurt those girls' families. She paused and looked down at the file. He was really giving up...just accepting that it was over for him. She stood up and without saying anything walked out of the interview room.

A huge ammount of weight had lifted from her shoulders. She looked down at her cell phone which had finally gotten a signal and saw a text from JJ. She opened the text and smiled. The woman they found, was Roger's sister. She hadn't been raped, they reached her in time. She smiled and turned around only to see Spencer in time. She sighed and flashed her phone. "They said they found no traces of rape...we got to her in time." Spencer didn't say anything. She rolled her eyes and looked back up at him. "Look...I know I shouldn't have lied to you about the baby I get that and I'm sorry. I just...I needed to know that the bastard that ruined my life was put away before even I could aknowledge that the baby was there. I promise I will never keep anything from you ever again."

Spencer sighed. He was still very annoyed, and deeply hurt. But, of course, a part of him was estatic as he always was when the caught the "bad guy." He nodded once, and replied.

"I know, Shortcake. It will take me a little while to not be annoyed, but I am really happy we are doing this, and I understand why you didn't tell me. What do you say to going home?"

Signe smiled though she was pretty upset. She didn't like it when Spencer was angry. Granted the man had every right to be angry she still didn't like it. When he asked her what she thought about going home she nodded. At least they were able to get this all taken care of before her parents came to visit. Now it was just finding a way to tell them she was having a baby.

"Yeah lets go home." As they walked to the exit of the station she turned around to see Roger being led away to a holding cell. She sighed, she still couldn't understand why he would do that to someone. How could someone take an innocent life just because they wanted to. She shook her head. "Sometimes I wonder how someone could possibly be capable of any of this."

Spencer replied tersely as they climbed into his car, and headed for home.

"Sig, sometimes these things just don't make sense. Hotch said that he will make no deals; Mr. Henderson will be sitting a jail cell for a very long time. JJ will prep you for the trial, if there is one. As for you and I, I think it might be a good idea if we wait until the morning to talk, OK?"
