Mia couldn’t help but feel on top of the world at that moment. She had thought that the night couldn’t get anymore perfect, but it did. Spencer hugged her as he let DJ down and Aimee came and swept DJ away. YUSSS! Come on, DJ. Let's go finish our yogurt, and let Dad and Mia have a few minutes alone...
Neither of the adults really minded Aimee taking charge of the toddler at the moment. Because all of the sudden, they were locked in a very passionate kiss, one that was just filled passion and love and every other emotion that either were filled with at the moment. Mia could probably count the number of times they’d shared a kiss that was even remotely similar to this on one hand. But this time, she didn’t hold back. She wasn’t at all scared.
She was a bit sad when Spencer ended the kiss, but she understood. Love...I hate to say it, but it's time to take DJ home.. Mia looked over at DJ and Aimee and smiled. ”Well, I agree that we have to take her home. But, I don’t think she’ll be going to sleep very soon. She could tell that both DJ and Aimee were very excited. Put that along with the sugar, and she doubted either of them would be going to bed anytime soon.

Spencer was reluctant to leave. He wanted to stay there, kissing Mia, for the rest of the night. But he knew he couldn't. He also had to be a father. So he sighed, but turned around and told Aimee and DJ that they were heading home. He took Mia's hand in his as they walked back to the car. He had already given Gil the tip for his time, so they just headed for home. He had a list of all the things he wanted to do back home, but first on the list was call their families. Also, put DJ to bed.

Mia didn’t want to go home, but she knew that they had to. They need to put DJ to bed at least, or at least attempt to. They had to be good examples for Aimee too. So, they couldn’t stay out all night. As Aimee helped get DJ into her car seat, Mia smiled and tapped her on the shoulder and smiled. She gave her a small hug. ”Thank you.” She knew the teen had something to do with the proposal.
She got in the car with a smile on her face. As they were stopped at a red light, Spencer turned to her. Do you have ideas for the evening, my dear?
Mia grinned at him and shrugged playfully. ”Well, I’m pretty sure I need to call my parents. You did remember to call and ask my daddy, right?”

Spencer lifted DJ into her carseat. As he figured, the little girl was starting to get worn out. She was a bit hyped up, though, which only meant she'd fall asleep-HARD-later. He climbed into the drivers seat as Mia and Aimee hugged, and then Mia was at his side again.
Mia's question startled him. Well, I’m pretty sure I need to call my parents. You did remember to call and ask my daddy, right? His face fell, and he hit the steering wheel.
No...but we can call. I will ask him, and propose tomorrow. We just pretend like tonight didn't happen... God. He'd forgotten that her family was still traditionally Southern, and no matter how stupid HE thought the tradition was, he knew it was important to her. Would that work? And yeah. Calling our parents-at least my mom-is a good idea...
Aimee helped to get DJ strapped in. Tonight was going to be a little zooey for awhile-DJ was never allowed that much sugar, so it would either hype her up or make her sleepier. Aimee hoped for the second. She was going to take DJ to her room and watch a movie so Spencer and Mia could do whatever it was that adults did to tell people that they were engaged, and then they could have some alone time. As Aimee turned to climb into the car, Mia surprised her by giving her a little hug. Aimee returned it, enthuiastically.
Thank you...Aimee nodded.
You're welcome. Congrats. Welcome to the family... Aimee was thinking that she needed to buy Mia some earplugs as a wedding present, because the Reids tended to ramble a lot...On the way home, Spence asked Mia if she had plans for the evening, and Aimee stopped herself from interjecting some innuendos. Instead, she winced when Mia asked if Spencer had called her father. THAT was the thing they'd left out-not on purpose, just that it was an old-fashioned idea to Aimee's mind, so it never occured to her.
When they got home, Aimee took DJ right away to her room, and put on the Lion King. The two girls climbed up onto Aimee's double bed, and started to watch. A few minutes into the movie, Aimee sighed.
Guess what, Deej? You're getting a new mommy, and maybe a new sister, too... Aimee smiled and kissed the little girls face. She didn't know if DJ understood.
A little while later, both girls were fast asleep.
But if you're so smart/tell me why are you/still so afraid?-Billy Joel "Vienna"

Mia felt her heart stop in a panic as Spencer’s head hit the steering wheel. ”OH my goodness, are you alright?”
No...but we can call. I will ask him, and propose tomorrow. We just pretend like tonight didn't happen... Would that work? And yeah. Calling our parents-at least my mom-is a good idea... Mia thought about it for a minute. She knew how important it was to her dad that Spencer would ask for her hand in marriage/his permission before proposing. Of course, she also was very uncomfortable with the thought of kind of lying to her parents.
”Well, that sounds like it could work, but honestly, I wouldn’t be at al comfortable with that. It would be like lying to him, and I’m terrible at lying to my parents, or just lying in general. I think we should just be honest with them, and if you ask for my daddy’s.. Oh. What’s the word?” Mia sighed with frustration as she used the sing language for the word she was looking for. Actually recalling how it sounds phonetically was different. She snapped her fingers and smiled. ”Blessing, that’s it. If you ask for his blessing, he will really like that. They understand that not everyone is raised with the same traditions. It is really more of a respect thing than anything else.”

Spencer was fast to regain his composure. He was fine.
OH my goodness, are you alright?...Well, that sounds like it could work, but honestly, I wouldn’t be at al comfortable with that. It would be like lying to him, and I’m terrible at lying to my parents, or just lying in general. I think we should just be honest with them, and if you ask for my daddy’s.. Oh. What’s the word? Blessing, that’s it. If you ask for his blessing, he will really like that. They understand that not everyone is raised with the same traditions. It is really more of a respect thing than anything else. Spencer wanted to say that in HIS view, it was disrespectful in this day and age to treat your daughter like an object that NEEDED permission to do things, but he did understand. So he nodded.
Ok. We can do that first thing... They arrived home not long after, and Aimee immeditely took charge of DJ. He kissed his daughter good night, and let Aimee take her down the hall. He knew what Aimee was expecting, but that was simply not likely. He got the phone, and some tea for both of them, and settled in on the couch. He handed the phone to Mia.
Here. You will have to dial...it's Elijah, right? He would ask for the man specifically, but let Mia lead in and chat with her mom or whatever for as long as she needed.

Mia saw Spencer nod in agreement with just being honest with her parents. She knew that a lot of people thought the tradition of asking the father was old-fashioned and thought of as being kind of disrespectful to the female. But, it wasn’t Mia knew it wasn’t a matter of being treated like an object. It was more of just a way to show some respect for both her parents and hopefully have her parents and Spencer start communicating more. She liked to keep her family in the loop, and Spencer was joining her family.
Ok. We can do that first thing... Mia smiled at Spencer.
”Thank you.” they got home and both Mia and Spencer kissed DJ good night before Aimee took her down the hall. Mia wasn’t entirely sure what was going through the teenager’s head, but she was pretty sure she wouldn’t want to know. Spencer got the phone along with some tea for the both of them, and they settled down on the couch.
Mia took the phone from Spencer as he handed it to her. Here. You will have to dial...it's Elijah, right? Mia nodded, she was glad that Spencer remembered her dad’s name. ”Yup, Elijah and Rose.” She dialed her parent’s home phone number, and patiently waited as the phone rang. ”Hello?” Mia couldn’t help but grin a bit at the sound of her mother’s voice.
”Hi Mama. It’s Mia. I have someone here who would like to speak to Daddy, if that wouldn’t be a bother.”
”Oh no, that’s fine, sweetie. This isn’t anything bad, is it?”
Mia laughed and shook her head. She could hear her aunt Frankie in the background. ”Who is it, Rose?” Mia knew her aunt. She was, well, very vocal. There was no way as soon as her auntie heard the news that she’d be able to keep it to herself.
”It’s Mia. Lijah, honey, Mia’s on the phone. She says she has someone who needs to talk to you.”
There was the sound of the phone being handed off to her father.
”Hello. This is Elijah Wilson. “ The two women could be heard whispering in the background. Mia handed the phone to Spencer and nodded. She mouthed the words, you’re up.

Spencer was thinking of what he would say to Mia's father. He wasn't known for his smoothness. He operated in facts. And pretty much facts only. He had an outline in his head, and he listened as Mia greeted her mother.
Hi Mama. It’s Mia. I have someone here who would like to speak to Daddy, if that wouldn’t be a bother... A few minutes later, Mia was handing him the phone, mouthing that it was his turn. He took a deep breath, and put the phone to his ear.
Hello, Sir. I am Dr. Spencer Reid...Spencer. I um...I want to marry Mia. I already asked, and I am sorry I didn't ask first. So I was hoping you still give me-us-your blessing anyway. I promise you that no one can love her, or care for her, like I can. I will try my best to give her everything she needs and wants. I promise that I will care for her as you would. He stopped speaking now, and then let her father answer.

Mia waited and held her breath as Spencer took the phone and spoke to her father. She was certain that her daddy wasn’t going to say anything negative. But she was still nervous, nonetheless. She listened as Spencer spoke. Hello, Sir.
She couldn’t help but smile as Spencer spoke to her father. There was a loud rolling laugh that came through the phone that instantly set Mia’s mind at ease. ”Well, it is nice to finally hear from ya, Spencer. We’ve heard a lot about you. Well, seeing as how you seem to have made my little girl so happy already, I’d be glad to give you my blessing.”
There was a moment of silence and then a loud yell in unison from the two women listening in on the conversation. ”YOUR WHAT?”
”Oh, I know you two were eavesdropping. Now.. Frankie, what are you doing?” There was the sound of a woman bursting into tears while someone else seemed to be scurrying to get something
”I’m calling the troops! The baby of our bunch of youngin’s is getting married!” Mia could hear her aunt through the phone and sat there shaking her head with a huge smile on her face, trying really hard not to laugh.
Elijah sighed and rubbed his wife’s back as he spoke into the phone.
”Well, Thank you for asking for my blessing, Spencer. It means a lot to me. Now, I’d get calling whoever else it is you need to tell before my sister has all of Georgia calling to tell you two congratulations. I hope we’ll talk again soon. Good- “
”Our baby is getting married..”
”I know, Rose. I know.. Good night, you two. Oh, and Mia, I know you’re probably listening in too. You need to bring your beau and his family down for a visit so your mama and aunties don’t pitch a conniption fit. Bye for now.” Then, Elijah hung up the phone.
Mia looked at Spencer with wide eyes. She hadn’t had the phone to her ear and even she had been able to hear her mother and aunt. ”Well, THAT went rather well. Do you want to call your mother?” She tried to approach the subject very carefully.

Spencer braced himself. He had seen enough wedding movies with Aimee to know that when the women got involved, it was anybody's game. He held the phone carefully, ready to pull it away in case Mia's mother got ahead of herself.
Well, it is nice to finally hear from ya, Spencer. We’ve heard a lot about you. Well, seeing as how you seem to have made my little girl so happy already, I’d be glad to give you my blessing. He let out his breath, and gave Mia a smile. There was some commotion, and yelling, in the background, and SPencer smiled. He was unused to big families, and the dynamics of such, but it sounded nice.
Well, Thank you for asking for my blessing, Spencer. It means a lot to me. Now, I’d get calling whoever else it is you need to tell before my sister has all of Georgia calling to tell you two congratulations. I hope we’ll talk again soon. Good- The man stopped talking, presumably to comfort his wife. Spencer nodded, and replied.
Thank you for your time, Sir...we will talk again soon...here is Mia... He handed her back the phone at the sound of someone crying. He smiled a bit at Mia, and then shrugged. He sipped at his tea while Mia finished her conversations. As she hung up, she spoke to him.
Well, THAT went rather well. Do you want to call your mother? He shook his head. Of course, he was going to TELL her. But not yet.
No. She doesn't talk on the phone...she thinks it's one of the way the voices speak to her. I will write her, though, and we'll go see her soon. I will call my dad in the morning-I only have his work number, and I don't want to wake up Aimee to get the home number. He knew that she was asleep because it was quiet, and because she hadn't come out of her room "for something. Really quick..." like she usually did when she was spying but trying not to be obvious.
Are you ready for bed? THey were sleeping together. But not SLEEPING together...he was taking it slowly, waiting for Mia to tell him she was ready. He hadn't wanted to frighten her, and he could wait.

I will call my dad in the morning-I only have his work number, and I don't want to wake up Aimee to get the home number. She had gotten used to having Aimee around, and sneaking around spying on her and Spencer. The girl hadn’t shown up lately though. She must be really tired. She was probably fast asleep.
Are you ready for bed?
Mia nodded. ”I just need to get my pajamas on, and I’ll be ready for bed.” Mia felt safe, for once with sleeping in the same bed as someone else. She felt safe and relaxed sleeping with Spencer, but she wasn’t SLEEPING with him. Not yet, anyways, she just wasn’t ready yet. She was getting there though. As they walked towards their bedroom, Mia turned around and laughed at a thought she had. ”You what is funny, yet a little frightening? Your mom thinking that telephones being one of the ways voices speak to her, that makes sense to me. They used to scare me, but pretty much EVERYTHING used to scare me.”
She smiled as she got her pajamas out of her dresser drawer and headed to the bathroom to get changed. She closed the door and smiled at her reflection. She was still a bit buzzed from the knowledge that she was engaged to the most amazing man on the Earth, at least in her eyes. That was a wonderful thought to have as she got changed into her pajamas.
Mia went about her nightly routine, brushing her teeth, taking of her make up, and putting her hair in a ponytail. She finally exited the bathroom and hung up her dress, seeing as how she couldn’t just let it get wrinkled. The blonde crawled into bed and rested her head on Spencer’s chest before closing her eyes. ”You know, if you’d told me I’d be here a year ago, I would have thought you were crazy. But, now that I’m here..” She stopped to yawn before she continued with her statement. ”Now that I’m here, I can’t imagine wanting to be anywhere else with anyone else.”

I just need to get my pajamas on, and I’ll be ready for bed. He nodded. He had to put HIS on, too. He took her hand gently as he led her upstairs. DJ and Aimee slept downstairs-there were four bedrooms-two up and two down, and the Master bedroom was the largest, and took up most of the upper level. She stopped short outside of their bedroom. You what is funny, yet a little frightening? Your mom thinking that telephones being one of the ways voices speak to her, that makes sense to me. They used to scare me, but pretty much EVERYTHING used to scare me. He smiled, but stopped short of laughing.
I am glad you understand... He guided her gently into the bedroom, and then busied himself with getting his pajamas, and pulling back the covers. He waited for Mia to finish, and then went into the bathroom and brushed his teeth. He returned to bed, and climbed in next to Mia. She spoke before he could.
You know, if you’d told me I’d be here a year ago, I would have thought you were crazy. But, now that I’m here..Now that I’m here, I can’t imagine wanting to be anywhere else with anyone else. He smiled, and yawned also, nodding.
Me, too...I am glad you said yes. I couldn't imagine being anywhere else but here, as well... He pulled her close, and kissed her before drifting off to sleep.
