Well, let me tell you about MY "scary" morning--not giving a lot of detail since I expect and ongoing investigation and don't want to jeopardize the prosecution's chances.
So, my wake-up call was the noise of glass breaking and metal groaning... someone smashing in a window at my house, then tearing the doors off my storage shed. I haul ass, still in skivvies, and immediately call 911, and see a strange vehicle parked by my shed and hear the intruders' voices, but can't make out what they're saying.
Lucky thing: the station's just two blocks away, and it's RIGHT at shift change, so... one minute, the dirtbags are pulling out of my driveway, a minute later I see three cruisers in hot pursuit, two minutes later a deputy's at my door taking my statement, joining me on a walkaround and collecting info for the case, and a few minutes later they have the perps and their ride, largely assisted by the business next door's employees who saw the whole thing.
Final score: two arrests. Bad guys won the coin toss, but WE made the real yardage today.
Just glad they were mere burglars... I didn't have much time for response, but thankfully that was in large part the swift response by the Sheriff's Department. I'm not gonna say which county here, but I am gonna say they get props from me.
