Back in Town (Aimee)

[Lorene Coventry]

Lorene was almost shaking with excitement. She had finally gotten the chance to move back to DC and be where she called home. Not only was she close to her work, but she was close to a lot of old friends too. And there was a park near by for Sean to go play at. Lorene had been unable to leave her son with anyone, so she had to bring him along on her trip to go surprise Aimee at her apartment. She hoped she was home, or this may prove to be a little awkward. Sure, she knew Spencer, but her friendship lie with the bubbly teen that resided with him. Perhaps DJ was old enough now to give Sean a little play mate.

She pulled her car into the driveway of the nice apartment complex, and began to walk towards the correct house number. Sean was starting to stray from her side and wander off, so she scooped him up so she didn't need to worry about chasing him down. Lorene knocked at the door of her friend's apartment and waited for an answer. Hopefully she wasn't interrupting anything; she just wanted to surprise Aimee, given she hadn't seen her in a matter of years. Before she adopted Sean, even.

Aimee had been up most of the morning doing homework. Now that she was a junior, school was harder, and sucking up SO much time. A lot had been going on-Paige was missing again, Spencer had put DJ in a daycare, and his girlfriend had dumped him. Her own father was getting sick, and Billy's mom had died. None of this got her down though-her beautiful smile was still there. She was putting the last touches on her report for Economics when the front door opened. Since she was home alone, she had to the answer the door. What a distraction! She stood up, and headed for the living room.

She threw it open, and stared. Then, a slow smile spread across her face, and she let out a squeal. OMG! It was Lorene! She opened the door wider.

Holy shit, Lorene. What are you doing here??? AImee slapped a hand over her face. Lorene had been cool, but even cursing sometimes bothered her. Aimee fast noticed the little boy n her arms.

Lorene let out an excited little squeal as well, setting her son down before wrapping Aimee in a tight hug. Sean looked gormless with his wide eyes, wondering what the heck was going on.

"Aimee! Oh sweetie I missed you so much," Lorene said happily, laughing softly. She smiled and entered the house, closing the door behind her. The fact that Aimee had cursed really blew over her head; since being married and divorced, she and Robert had often exchanged heated words like that before they finally ended it.

"I'm back for good, I got a job here in DC, "she said warmly, ruffling Sean's hair as he hugged onto her leg. Lorene looked at Aimee and smiled, "This is Sean...my son."

Lorene said she was going to stay here. In DC. She got a job. ANd adopted a baby! YAY.

Aimee gestured to the couch.

SIT! I will go get some lemonade.She hurried into the kitchen, and came back a little later with some glasses filled with the yellow liquid, and a sippy cup for Sean. It was one of DJ's, but DJ wouldn't mind. She was a good girl and knew how to share.

I can't believe you're back. Do you want some toys for Sean?! DJ doesn't mind sharing...Where are you living now? Can I babysit?? DJ can have play dates!

Lori giggled and sat down on the couch as Aimee went back to get drinks. Sean wandered around the room for a moment before settling down at his mothers side on the coach.

As Aimee returned, Lori took the glass and dippy cup from her, handing the latter to Sean. "Here sweetie," she said as she handed the cup to Sean. He smiles at Aimee and happily took a swig. "I'm glad to be back, I really missed it here," she told her, sipping at her own glass.

"We don't live far, we actually walked here," Lorene added, smiling. "Just a small apartment, given we don't take up much room."



She laughed as Sean piped up at the mention of toys. He nodded up at the teen and abandoned Lorene's lap. "Does DJ play?" He asked innocently, in his baby tone of voice.

Aimee settled in on the couch next to Lorene with her drink. She was SO happy to see her friend.

Here sweetie...I'm glad to be back, I really missed it here,Aimee nodded.

Oh, my God. Sooo much has changed. So, Billy's mom died and we broke up...We're stil friends, though. And Spencer started seeing this girl, Mia, who was an agent, too, and they were engaged....but she got reassigned to a different unit and they split up. And Daddy's been sick. It's been such a long year. But Clark and Paige had a baby, and got married! And Dave Rossi and Ainsley Mackintosh got married, too...she's pregnant. Julie is still the same old Julie. Weird as ever. Aimee spoke rapidly.

Sean perked up at the word "toys."

Does DJ play? Aimee nodded.

YUP. SHe's at the park, though, with her dad. Oh, you walked here?? Cool. It's a beautiful day. I would go out, but I had a TON Of homework. Oh, guess what? I was on honor roll again.

Lorene smiled as Aimee began to speak, and then her face dropped at the mention of all the horrible changes that had happened since she left. She bit her lip and frowned; she remembered having such a good time with Billy and Aimee when she was here before. She supposed she understood though; she and Robert had ended the same way. Except for the fact that Robert still loved her and Lorene wanted nothing to do with him/was totally afraid of him. Not that it was his fault...he had a medical problem that had come arise due to trauma, so part of her felt bad for ignoring his calls and emails for the past few years.

Oh...wow a lot has happened. I'm sorry about you and Billy...and his mother too, she replied softly. Other than Clark, Lorene wasn't familiar with many of the other people Aimee was talking about. None the less, babies were a good thing, as was marriage so Lorene simply smiled at that fact. Speaking of breakups, you knew about Robert and I, right?

That's great! I really don't know Clark all too well, but from what you've mentioned he's...quite the character, she mused. Lorene smiled warmly down at Sean as he messed around with some of the toys he had found and as Aimee spoke to him. He was a sweet boy, and even though he wasn't her blood-son, he took after her when it came to personality. He was very sweet and tended to cling to things and people he was familiar with. Good job on honor roll, Aimee, she added on gently.

Aimee caught on fast to Lorene's changed in mood. She realized that it was too much bad news all at once. So she thought of some good things.

BUUUUT. I haven't changed too much. How is Skye? Aimee really wanted to know-she was STILL trying to set her dad up.

Lorene asked if Aimee remembered about her breakup with her husband. Aimee nodded sadly. She liked to pretend that it never happened, because it made her sad. Lorene and Robert had been perfect.

Yup, I do. What does HE think about Sean? Surely, the two adults stil talked, right? Her parents still talked.

Oh, guess what else? My mom is coming for Christmas!

Sure, it saddened Lori to think about Robert. He was a very sweet man, and had treated her well before he went to serve his country. In fact, that's why Lorene had fallen for him; because he was so gentle and protective over her. It was a nice change to be on the receiving end of that for once. 

Skye is doing well...she's not in DC, but only an hour or so away, Lorene explained. I'm not too sure what all she's been up to, she doesn't call very often.

Robert didn't exactly KNOW about Sean. Lori didn't talk to him about Sean; she didn't trust him. Not that he would do anything...it was just the memories she had of the Robert she had last seen haunted her. She didn't want her son to be involved with him. Before Lorene could answer, Sean piped up and looked at the two ladies, Robert...his name is on the phone machine a lot.

Lorene bit her lip and looked at AImee, I uh...he doesn't know. We don't talk anymore.

Thankful for the topic change, Lorene grinned, Oh how nice! That'll be so much fun! We can plan a Christmas party or something.

Aimee listened to the sadness in Lorene's voice. She hated when adults were upset-she never knew what to say. She knew when her friends got upset, she could tell them it would get better-because it would. But Aimee kew that was not always the case for adults. She didn;t know what to say to Lorene, so she just did what she could do-listen. Aimee nodded carefully, and sipped her lemonade quietly. Some good news first.

Skye is doing well...she's not in DC, but only an hour or so away, Lorene explained. I'm not too sure what all she's been up to, she doesn't call very often. Aimee nodded. She could totally see that.

Yup. Sounds like her, really... Aimee smiled. Lorene went on as Sean climbed down to play with DJ's toys. He looked up at Aimee at the sound of RObert's name.

Robert...his name is on the phone machine a lot. Aimee nodded at him, bt Lorene spoke before she could.
, I uh...he doesn't know. We don't talk anymore. Aimee raised an eyebrow. Sweet, perfect Lorene didn't talk to someone?! She couldn't believe it.

YOU don't speak to him?? Aimee was truly surprised. She finished her drink. Well, the world didn't make sense anymore.

They were both grateful for the change in topic.

Oh how nice! That'll be so much fun! We can plan a Christmas party or something. Aimee nodded excitedly.

Yup! I've been doing a LOT of party planning, actually...And I'm really GOOD at it. We can also have a Halloween party!

She snickered softly, "Skye will be Skye. She cares, even though she doesn't say it...or act like it."

It was a wonder the two were even sisters by blood. Lorene and her were so different, but she supposed they complemented one another well enough. Especially as children. Lorene had obviously been the shy, quiet one while Skye was popular and rebellious. 

She bit her cheek when Aimee looked stunned. It wasn't that she HATED Robert, because Lorene really wasn't capable of that. She missed how they had been before he went crazy. She mentally kicked herself; it hadn't been anyone's fault, really, that he was put in such a mental state. He had just been sick and it was taking it's toll. "I just...I dunno. Things went WAY far south right before it ended and I don't think it's a good idea to keep him in my life," Lorene explained, playing with Sean's hair until he got irritated and crawled away. "He calls and emails a lot, and that kind of makes me nervous."

She smiled once more at the mention of parties. Especially the Halloween one; it was her very favorite holiday. Lorene grinned, "Oooh Halloween parties are the best. We should get together soon and plan one. AND go shopping for costumes."

Aimee just sat on the couch. She didn't know what else to say.

I understand. Like, I don't speak to my stepfather because he's toxic. You don't need people who are bummers. Aimee wanted to ask for specifics, but she didn't think that it was a good time right now. AImee smiled when Lorene started to play with Sean's hair as they talked.

The little boy soon got antsy, and crawled away. Lorene seemed to perk up at the suggestion of a party. AImee knew there was a reason they were friends.

Oooh Halloween parties are the best. We should get together soon and plan one. AND go shopping for costumes. Aimee nodded.

YES! You could be Madonna again...

"Exactly. I feel kind of bad because it really wasn't his fault-it was something medical," she added in, "But still...it just got bad."

Lorene snickered as her son crawled away, totally in a world all his own. She was definitely rubbing off on that boy. He liked Halloween almost as much as she did; except he was more excited about the candy. Lorene just liked to dress up. But the candy was totally a plus.

"Ahhh no. Madonna was NOT our greatest costume idea," Lorene said, laughing at the memory. It was fond, of course, but still...she shuddered as she remembered herself in that costume.

Aimee laughed.

Madonna was the best! Ok, no Madonna. Maybe a witch... Aimee shook her head. She nodded when Lorene spoke again, though.

Exactly. I feel kind of bad because it really wasn't his fault-it was something medical...But still...it just got bad Aimee nodded. She understood.

Well, if you feel like you made the right choice, and you're happy, that is all that is important. Sometimes even Aimee could be deep.

Lori giggled as she recalled the Madonna costume. She had liked it deep deep down.

A witch seems more suiting for me, she told Aimee, nodding. She finished off her lemonade and then set it back on the table, only to have Sean come up and crawl on her lap. It warmed her when he did cute little things like that.

I think it was the right choice...but I just feel like he didn't have much say in it, you know? I dunno, I'm content with where I'm at right now so I guess it doesn't matter, Lorene said, sighing a little as Sean laid on her shoulder. She kissed his head and mused, He's sleepy.
