Derek's shoulders were hunched as he finished up the report. once the last line was finally finished, he stretched and yawned. He had been here for hours doing incident reports for Hotch and now he could finally go home. The paperwork was done and he was free. and why was he staying late to work on someone else's paperwork? Simple: so Hotch could spend as much time as possible with Jack. He knew what it was like to grow up in a single-parent household, how difficult it had been for his mother, and he didn't want one of his best friends going through the same thing. So yes, he was willing to stay late whenever he needed to.
He then stood up, stretching and his muscles made a small cracking sound as he moved from his previous position. Man, what a case, he thought. It had been a tough one. Their unsub had been targeting people who were abuse survivors and then re victimizing them again before killing them. And to be perfectly honest, it had taken him a lot to not let his emotions cloud his judgment. But he had done it, even though it had been hard. And they had caught the guy and everything was okay now. No one else was going to be hurt or killed. Families wouldn't have to go through that pain again. And that was why he had become a cop and then had joined the FBI: to stop criminals and to help people. And he loved his job. Even the paperwork. Sure it was boring, but it was something that needed to be done.
