Most people didn't care about what was happening to some hobo around the corner. And even fewer people care about starving children living right next to them. But in the eyes of Sandrine Hilshire no one cared about sex slaves. First - slaves don't exist. Not in a modern and developed society. Second - if they exist, it's their own fault. And third - a lot of people are grateful for getting cheap pleasure.
But those people everyone else seemed to forget as people were the only company she had. Sandra's job was to find the reason for their death. The scientific reason. Not the abstract one. But now matter how hard the girl tried, it seemed impossible for her to not care the slightest about those people. She told the children bed-time stories. If they didn't get any respect during their life, they should at least get some respect after their death. However, this also made her appear creepy for most colleagues. When they spent their time going to a fancy restaurant, Sandra stayed at work. After a year, she even started to sleep there. Wondering about the backgrounds of those dead people made her forget her own issues.
Early in the morning, Matthew knocked at her door. He was the only one besides their boss to go to the place where Sandra spent the last two years. One of the very few people who didn't care about her honesty. At least it seemed like that.
"You don't mind getting something for breakfast, do you? Vanessa and Sonya are waiting in the car," Matt noted. He then grabbed Sandra's arm and dragged her out. Not many people would dare to do that. Especially not when they saw a person that looked as fragile as Sandra did. But Matthew knew that sometimes things are not the way they seem.
Matt never invited anyone from work to his home, and Sandra knew that she should feel honoured. But she didn't. They made a breakfast feast for her. With a shaky voice the young woman asked: "Why are you doing that? I never questioned it when you bought me shampoo and shower gel. But this is something different." She stocked, and then continued.
"David told you I was planning to quit, didn't he?"
Sonya, who was trying to convince Vanessa to eat her scrambled eggs turned to Sandra and tried to smile.
"It was my idea. Really. Matt only told me that you're quitting and I thought you told him everything yourself. And when he mentioned you're also moving to Quantico because you're going to work together with the BAU, I knew that you'll need a 'pot-de-adieu' or how it is said in French", Sonya explained.
"It's okay, it's not your fault", Sandra sighed. Eating some of the apple pancakes, she looked at Matt. The guy was telling his daughter to stop picking her nose because it will make it grow bigger than usual so that her fingers will always fit into it. And in the end she'll look like Dave. Sandra wasn't sure what was creepier - the usual stories about fingers falling of or what Matt tells his daughter. "Is it really necessary to teach you child to behave better but obsess on beauty instead? I know it was just a joke, but it's still annoying. Not to mention that I like Davids nose. And the rest of him. Yes, the rumours are true, I slept with our chef!"
Matt didn't seem shocked about this. "Hey. Everyone has needs. And you don't look like a person who goes to parties for that. But that's not the reason for you to quit your job here, is it?"
"No. It's the fact that I'll never be able to fight the bad guys staying here. And the fact that seeing your family every now and then when they come and take you home makes me jealous. It makes me miss my daughter."
