As they headed back to the Station, Hotch let Murph drive so he could make phone calls. First, he dialed JJ.
"JJ, I need an update. Thanks." He hated voicemail. Next he tried the BAU, and grimaced when it, too, went to voicemail.
"You have reached the lair of Penelope Garcia and Paisley Gregg. Leave your message, and if it is funny or really interesting, your call will be returned."
He sighed, and rolled his eyes.
"This is Hotch. I need a return phone call NOW, please. Thank you."

Shauna looked over Hotch as he spoke, "Voicemail?" she asked, hearing the frustration in his voice, she had a feeling that he didn't get ahold of whoever he was trying to reach

"Yes, Agent Quinn. What are your thoughts on the new intern?" He turned, and followed Det. Murphy to the car as the woman fell into a light conversation with Clark.
"And when we arrive at the station, I would like to switch out Morgan for you, if that is OK? I just want to make sure everyone has a chance at the big case stuff. I know this crime scene stuff gets repetitive."

Meanwhile, Clark directed his attention to trying to put the local more at ease. "Detective, I know I can seem kinda creepy at first, partly because of that 'appear and disappear almost at will' thing I do--hell, I'll be honest with you, I'm scared of me sometimes; too many years out in the cold hunting some of the scariest people imaginable has its occupational hazards and side-effects, I guess. Remember 'Hotel California'?"
Noticing a rumble in his gut, he decided to segue to a more pleasant subject, food. "I know this is a really awkward time to ask this, but is there anywhere good in town to grab a quick bite? I'm on a six-thousand-calorie per day diet due to some medical issues... Wish the hotel had better kitchenettes, so I could practice some on my Cordon Bleu courses--right now I'm working on learning Italian, with a little help from a restaurant owner back near Quantico."
And transitioning back to business, he asked, "So, where are we on our Persons of Interest? I actually broke an UNSUB recently by an extreme outside-the-box version of 'killing her with kindness', so if we need an alternate perspective on information extraction from somebody maybe I can help."

Back at the BAU, Paisley hurried into her and Penelope's office from the women's room. She saw that there was a voicemail message, and buried her head in her hands as she listened to Hotch's voice. She had SWORN she had programmed the BAU's answering machine to forward all calls to her cell...which was sitting on the desk in front of her.
Great. Her first case, and she had already failed. She hoped that Garcia would return soon; she was totally struggling here.
She picked up the phone and dialed Hotch. She smiled when he answered-maybe he wouldn't fire her...
"Sir? This is Intern Gregg. Sorry about missing your call; I had to haul ass to ladies. I though I had programmed the BAU's answering machine to forward all the calls to my cell, but then I realized I left my cell here in our office, and then I was wondering why I couldn't hear it; after all, I am the only one here, and THEN-" she was cut off by Hotch's words.
"Look, I don't care. Thank you for calling back, but it's IMPERATIVE that someone can reach you at all times. I need you to run some info. for me. I need a list of the owners of all three dumpsites."
"Yes, sir. I will text that to you ASAP. Can I just, once again, apoologize?"

"She's a smart person" Shauna replied, "Knows her stuff, but still has much to learn about the BAU and the FBI in general." she added while looking at her boss as she spoke to him

Paisley dialed Hotch, and put the others on the line through Garcia's patch system.
"Hi, everyone. Hotch asked me to determine who owns all three dumpsites. Turns out it belongs to one Vernon Iilych, Chief Campbell's father in law. Apparently, he owns most of the town, at least, land-wise.
And, just so you all know, I am off to the infirmary-someone called Agent Anderson was looking for a file, and sneezed everywhere. I took the liberty of Lysoling your office, Agent Jeareau. I have my cell, and my tablet, though."

Clark dutifully followed the two senior agents to the improvised conference room, swiping a couple donuts along the way--something, anything to placate the blast-furnace of his strange metabolism so his guts wouldn't make funny and usually loud rumbles at this inopportune time...
As soon as he finished wolfing down a donut, he put the netbook on the table, map and plotted data still on-screen, compared notes with Morgan and asked, "So, where are we, Boss?"

Clark was perplexed. Why was he still seeing and hearing Quinn here, after she had been told to go back to the school and Morgan had reported that she had already arrived there? "I need a vacation... and a couple martinis," he sighed as he scarfed down a few Advil for his chronic headache.

"Agent Quinn, please return to the high school; Reid is waiting for you," replied Hotch.
Once they were alone, Hotch addressed the male agents.
"I issued the order for a profile by end-of-business today. I need yu two to investigate the Chief's involvement in this case. My gut tells me he knows more than he is letting on to..."

"Go soft or go hard?" Clark asked. "If we go soft we may not get results, if you turn me loose to go hard that won't be so much 'emotional fender-bender' as 'full demolition-derby'... Any thoughts or advice on where to start, or just use our guts and I second-fiddle for SSA Morgan?"

"The latter, Clark...remember, this is a small, close-knit community. We aren't looking to cause disruption, just a means to an end." Hotch answered the man decidedly.
"Thank you both; when the time comes to question Chief Campbell, please consider taking LT. Murphy with you."
