Spencer shrugged.
"I only presume so. I haven't actually spoken to him about it. Last time we saw each other, it didn't end well. But yeah, this is where I grew up. And he was right; it *was* adequate-it had heat, and there was always food on the table and I had clean clothes. I guess it wasn't entirely bad." He paused, and then drove on a little.
"I still own it, actually. When I turned 21, my father left me some things, and this house was one of them. I haven't sold it; Mom still talks about it, and I feel like if I sold it, I would be selling another piece of her memory, you know?" He realized that he wasn't paying attention, and had stopped at the park where he used to play. He indicated it with his hand.
"The park. I used to play in that sandbox over there, and me and this kid called Max would play with Riley, and we'd throw sand at his sister, although I think that she was the first girl I ever had a crush on. She was my age, and the other boys were older. But we were so mean." He smiled at the memories, and glanced at Signe, and placed his hand on her stomach, as if trying to rely the memory to the baby.
Signe smiled as Spencer talked about his friends. He seemed to have some great memories with these kids. It was a shame that Riley had passed. She would have liked to meet them. She felt his hand on her stomach and she placed her hand on his. This was hard for him and she could tell. She knew that he wanted to not revisit some of these memories.
"I think it's great that you keep the house for your mom. I would like to meet this Max kid. Do you guys stay in touch at all?" She asked looking out the window at the park. Imagining bringing there child to a park back at home. Playing on the swings, the slides. It was going to be great.

Spencer smiled when Signe put her hand over his. He shook her head when she asked if he kept in touch with Max.
"No. Last I heard, he'd joined the Marines. Riley's sister, Jane, still lives nearby, though. She's married now, has a couple of kids. Her husband works for the local PD, actually."
Signe nodded when he said he had lost touch with them. He mentioned that Jane was married with a few kids and her husband worked for the local PD. She took one last look around and tried to force her smile. She had flashes back to her childhood. Running in the back yard at Derek's house and going to barbeques. She also remembered when Derek was being hurt by his football coach. She wanted to help but she was scared...She was just a little girl.
"Well...Shall we go see your mom now?" She asked bringing up a nice memory to Spencer. Though his mother was indeed sick she knew he loved talking about her and seeing her. She could see that Diana was Spencer's hero.

Spencer nodded, still a little lost in the memories. He snapped back to reality, though, and smiled at Signe.
"Yes, let's go." He sighed, but turned the car in the opposite direction, towards the sanitarium, and spoke again.
"Like I said, she should be waiting for us. But it might be a good idea for me to go in first, just to tell her I've brought you along, to make sure she's having a good day. She's never violent, but she can be a little...tactless when she's tired or something."
Signe listened to what he said and nodded. When they came here they allowed for time to be here for a few days just in case Diana wasn't feeling up to having company and they would come back another day. This was important to Spencer, for his mother to meet the other important woman in his life and that was what Signe was going to do.
The drive didn't take to long. She liked seeing the sites of Vegas and only wished she would have the time to hit the town and see some of the casinos but when you were pregnant you got tired easily. He said he would go make sure she was okay and Signe nodded as he climbed out of the car. She looked down at her belly and stroked it. "You ready to meet Grandma?"

Spencer smiled at his fiancee, and spoke.
"Sweetie, you don't have to wait out here. There is a waiting room, but we'll go up to her room. I'll just go in first; it'll only take me a few moments to assess." He held the door for her, and helped her to climb out of the car. He led her into the building, and stopped at the reception desk.
"Hi, I'm Dr. Spencer Reid. I am here to see Diana Reid." The receptionist said that they could go up, and so he took Signe's hand, and led her to the elevator and up to the third floor. They stop, and he takes a breath before leading her down the hallway, stopping in front of the familiar room. He raises his free hand to knock.
Signe nodded as he walked into the room. She stood in the hallway smiling at the people who walked by, she had her hand on her stomach. That was it's new favorite place to be. A nurse walked over to her and waved.
"You must be Spencer's fiance."[/i] Signe smiled and nodded as she shook her hand. The woman from the looks of it had probably never really spoken to someone who was pregnant. The woman looked up at her. "Do you know what you two are having?"[/i] Signe nodded and looked down at her stomach. "It's a girl. We're naming her after his mother." The nurse smiled. "That's going to make Diana so happy. She's done nothing but talk about him and you."[/i] Signe nodded and looked to the door when she heard it open and saw Spencer come out.
Signe looked to Spencer who was saying she was ready and turned back to the nurse and waved. The young woman waved back and went on her way. She turned to Spencer. "She's such a sweet girl. She loves working with your mom." She said before he asked if she was ready to see his mother. She looked herself over and made sure nothing was out of place. Not due to her OCD but because she was nervous. She wanted to make sure that his mother like her.
"Yeah...I'm ready."
She was led into the room. She peaked in as her body merged in through the door. The room was neat and tidy. Diana was sitting in a chair that was facing her window looking outside. Signe didn't say a word...She just looked at Spencer.

Spencer nodded.
"Yes, all the staff here is fantastic. They are the best in their field. That's the only reason why I felt OK leaving her here; I know she's being taken care of." He took her hand again while she looked herself over and then told him she was ready.
He guided her quietly and gently through the door, and saw his mom sitting, looking at the window. He cleared his throat, and she turned around, her face unreadable.
"Mom, this is Signe. Signe, this is my mother, Diana."
Signe smiled when he introduced her to this mother. She was beautiful. She waved when the woman looked at her. She took a few steps toward her. "Hi Diana...It's a pleasure to meet you. Spencer's told me so many wonderful things about you." She held her hand out for the woman to shake it. When nothing happened she pulled her hand back slowly and looked at Spencer unsure of what to say.

Spencer sighed, and shook his head. He smiled at Signe, and then spoke in a low, even tone to his mother.
"Mama, it's OK. I know that Sig is new, but she is a good guy. Remember the letters? It's the same Signe." He watched as Diana seemed to remember, and sighed in relief when she smiled.
"Yes, Signe. I am sorry, dear, I forgot. It's nice to meet you. Spencey, she's beautiful."
Spencer nodded, and indicated a seat for Signe. Diana continued, motioning to Signe's pregnant stomach.
" And this must be my grandbaby. Oh, Spencer. This is good."
Spencer nodded, and sat next to Signe as his mother settled in at the foot of her bed.
Signe was relieved when she heard Diana. She was remembering...That was good. She smiled at her as she gestured for her to sit down. When she mentioned the baby and placed a hand on her stomach and smiled at the woman. This was a special day. She didn't want to tell Spencer until they had gotten here but movement at started today. She looked at her fiance and then back to his mother.
"Diana Jennifer Reid. That's going to be her name." She smiled at Spencer and then looked back at Diana. "She's been moving since we got here. I think she was more excited to meet you than I was. Would you like to feel?" She said looking at the woman. Feeling a baby kick was something special. Women all loved to feel a baby move.

Spencer was carefully watching his mother's reactions, but had relaxed a little. He smiled when Signe spoke, telling her that they were calling the baby after her and JJ, and his mom smiled lightly. Then Signe said something interesting-that the baby was moving. Diana nodded, and moved towards Signe and placed a tentative hand on her stomach.
"That is great. You know, Spencer was really quiet throughout most of my pregnancy. His father was so worried, and then the last three months, he moved almost all day and night. I told William that he was just a late bloomer."
