Signe could see why Spencer loved his mother. She was a great woman and cared about Spencer very much. It was nice that Spencer was returning the favor and making sure she was well cared for. When she placed her had on Signe's stomach a smiled made it's way across Signe's lips. She looked at Spencer who was calming down a little bit since they had arrived at the hospital.
As Diana spoke about Spencer when she was pregnant with him she couldn't help but smile. She spoke about how he didn't move very much until later on in her pregnancy. She could tell Spencer was getting a little embarrassed and chuckled when Diana shushed him. Diana had told him to be quiet and let them have there lady talk and Signe's eyes grew wide and she shrugged.
"I bet he was just a deep thinker and probably spent most of the time thinking." She smiled up at Spencer once more before looking down at her stomach and stroked it a little. Diana seemed to take to it very well. Like her maternal instincts were coming back to her. "Yeah little D here has been kicking since we got into the car...It was something different when I felt it the first time last night. Spencer was still asleep but she woke me up with the kick."

Spencer was happy; it was going well, and his mother was glowing with Signe's words. She had taken her hand away, and he relaxed more as they fell into an easy chatter. He interjected.
"I don't think I was thinking. I was listening to Mom's Bob Dylan. And....Dad's Debussy." Diana nodded, and then Spencer reached for Signe's hand when she spoke about how the baby had woken her up that morning. He just shook his head, and then Diana replied.
He was always very alert....from the very first day. Spencey, Signe, dear, you two should start reading poetry to the baby. It'll make her smarter, or at least that's what all these damned doctors say.
Signe smiled when Spencer mentioned how he was listening to the music. Spencer took her hand and she smiled back at him. This visit was going pretty well so far. Nothing was out of the ordinary.
Diana then mentioned that they should start reading the baby poetry to help make her smarter. She had mentioned the doctors in a way that made Signe feel like she didn't much like the doctors very much. It made sense in Signe's mind....She wouldn't like them much either if she was being followed by them all the time.
"Spencer's been making sure she gets at least a chapter of reading that I mostly don't understand every day. I do like it when he reads her Chaucer though...He's my favorite." She said bringing up one of her favorite authors. "I also think he should read her Tolkien but Spencer thinks that would be to scary for her."

Chaucer, huh? Did Spencey tell you that I used to teach 15th century literature? Chaucer is one of my favorites, too. Tolkien is fine, Spencey. You need to lighten up. I can tell that Signe is a good influnece, you've gained a little weight. You were too skinny before.
Spencer sighed, and shook his head. He opened his mouth to speak, but then closed it when a knock came at the door. Spencer looked to Signe and then to Diana, who shrugged. Spencer rose and headed to the door, and threw it open. It was silent for a moment, and then he gasped.
Signe smiled at Diana and nodded. "Thank you Diana...At last someone agrees that The Lord Of The Rings is just fine for children." She heard the door knock and turned in her seat as Spencer stood up to go open the door. Diana shrugged her shoulders as did Signe.
She was shocked to see it was Spencer's father William standing at the door. To be honest from what she had heard about his father he was the kind of man to not care about family. She also quite honestly didn't feel much like meeting him after what she had heard about him but she wasn't going to make a scene. No, she would grint and bear it and be nice to her future father in law.
Signe could tell Spencer was not happy to see his father. When he said that he normally came to see Diana on Saturdays she looked at her. Dianna nodded and looked back at her...Husband? Spencer said it was time that they should be going. Signe stood up but stopped when William motioned with his hands for them to stay where they were.
Spencer nodded and introduced Signe to his father, she could tell this was hurting him, he didn't want to do this. Signe walked up to William and smiled, holding out her hand. "Hi my names Signe...And this little thing bakin in there is Diana Jennifer...Your little grand baby." She gestured down to her stomach. William took her hand in his and gave her a little peck on the hand. She smiled and took her hand back shortly after.

Spencer huffed a sigh, and spoke to his father.
"Really, every Saturday? Why?" He noticed that both his fiancee and mother were horrified, but he couldn't stop himself. William remained calm, though, and replied gently.
" Because Diana is still your mother, and when things happen with you, and to you, we discuss it. I didn't know you were in town this weekend."
"I left a message with your paralegal."
Ah, yes, Irene is a nice lady, but a little dim. Now, tell me about this baby. You're going to be a father, too? Wonders never cease.
Signe wasn't sure what to think about this situation. She felt like she was watching some drama show. Spencer was angry, William was really trying to explain himself and Diana was just sitting and watching with Signe. When William said he was amazed that Spencer was going to have a baby she stepped between them.
"Okay first of all Spencer...Calm the hell down. He's your father and you need to at least respect him." She turned and looked at William with a sacastic smile on her face. "What part are you amazed at Mr. Reid?"

Spencer looked at Signe with a mix of awe and shock on his face. His sweet fiancee had never said an unkind word to anyone, and now here she was, taking on his father?! He spoke.
"Sig, sweetie, I'm sorry. Can we all just calm down? Please? Dad, sit down, let's see if we can't talk this out like adults." William nodded.
I'm sorry, Signe, may I call you Signe? I just meant that my boy is surprising us all lately; I thought he was content with his life, and then I find out, through his mother, that he wasn't, and so he found you, and he's having a baby. It's just-amazing. That's all I meant.
Diana spoke then, her tone strange.
Besides, Spencey, he's still your father, and even if you dislike him, I still love him. I know it doesn't make sense to you, but I do.
Signe nodded when he said they all needed to sit down and talk this out like adults. She nodded and took her seat. She felt awful when his father began justifying himself to her. Apologizing if you will. She shook her head at him. "Sire I apologize...I shouldn't have spoken to you like that. To be honest if my mom or dad were I am sure I would have been in big trouble for sayin something like that. I come from the country just outside of Chicago."
Signe realized she was rambling and decided to shut her mouth. She knew that most likely Diana knew how her and Spencer met but she wasn't sure about William. She thought back. It was going to be strange telling there daughter that they met when he saved her from being raped and murdered...Well nobody said she was being brought into a normal family.

Spencer sighed in relief when everyone calmed down. He was about to speak when Signe piped in, telling his father about herself a little. He smiled lightly; apparently, his penchant for prattle had rubbed off on her.
Finally, she stopped speaking and it was quiet for a moment. The William spoke again.
Chicago? My brother lived there until he passed; Spencer's uncle Daniel. Spencer's mother told me a little about you; she shares some of his letters-only the big details, none of the secrets. That's their mother and son thing; something I never understood; their closeness, I mean.
Signe smiled and looked at Spencer as his father talked about how his brother used to live in Chicago. He then began going into how his wife and son always wrote letters back and forth and never really shared details with him. Part of her was happy. It was good that she wasn't advertising the information but she knew that he would eventually find out bout how they met.
"Well that's a shame...I would have loved to meet him." After she finished her sentence her phone went off. She smiled and excused herself before answering it. "This is SSA Signe Larsen." She didn't realize it was her father calling. "Oh hey Daddy I'm just with Spencer and his parents. No it's fine how was the talk with mom?" She paused for a moment as her father spoke to her on the phone. The talk didn't go so well. "I don't understand wha...What does that mean?" She listened to her dad talk on the phone about how her mother and him were splitting up and that he needed a place to stay for a while. "Yeah ummm...When does your flight leave? Okay I'll text Derek and have him leave the key under the matt for you...We can talk when I get home. Yeah I love you to."
She hung up the phone and walked back to the chair, wiping her tears from her eyes and throwing on the best smile she could muster up.

Spencer watched Signe as she listened to his father talk, and then her phone rang. He grimaced, but figured it was work, and as she exited the room to take the call, he apologized.
"I'm sorry, it's probably work." His parents were understanding, but there was an awkward silence while she spoke quietly. Spencer tried not to listen in, knowing that he would find out later, but as Signe re-entered, wiping tears from her eyes, he spoke.
Signe sat down and right away Spencer was asking if they needed to go. Signe shook her head and looked at him. "No no no it's fine...My mom and dad are getting a divorce...Dad's coming back sometime in the morning and Derek's going to go pick him up and take him to the house." She looked down and wiped the remaining tears from her eyes and looked at him. She moved till she was by his ears and could whisper. "Please do not make a scene this is for your mom."
